World Cup Fever is starting to take over the world. I’m not *that* into football, and as I watched Morocco’s valiant effort against Portugal on Wednesday, I remembered why I’m not that into it.
When I’m really rooting for a team (in this case Morocco), I get so emotionally invested that the stress, the highs, the lows of every game seem to affect me more than the coach & the players. I will literally gain or lose nothing if my team wins, but I’m in it like my family’s lives depend on it.
I’m the same way with movies – especially great thrillers & horror movies. I don’t like having distractions around or people talking that could pull me out of the theatre that the director created just for me. I want to really get into it and believe that the jinn causing all the shocks and scares is real, and is out there to get me.
So, you can imagine the rollercoaster that Wednesday’s Morocco-Portugal game took me on. First, everyone (myself and my Moroccan in-laws included) thought Portugal would just destroy Morocco in an embarrassing way. And after the first 5 minutes, it looked that way with Ronaldo outsmarting the Moroccan defence and scoring an early goal.
But then something magical happened…
Morocco seemed to be keeping possession… and not giving the ball away… their passes were short and sharp… they were outwitting the Portuguese… attacking like they meant it… and taking shots… by the end of the first half Portugal looked like they were really lucky to still be ahead.
And the 2nd half was no different. After the first 10 minutes of the game, I was absolutely certain that if Morocco continued the same way, they would win or at least equalise. And they did continue…
Morocco dominated the game, to Portugal’s embarrassment.
But after 90 thrilling, roller-coaster minutes, there was just 1 thing missing:
A goal.
Sometimes you can do everything right but you’re just missing that 1 connection that would make all the difference in terms of results.
And the same is true for our psychology and our spirituality.
There’s just this 1 thing most people are missing, which means that no matter how much positive thinking they try to do, and how many personal development books they read, and how much effort they put into their spiritual practices, they just never quite reach the goal of inner-peace and win the ‘match’ against the ego.
That 1 thing that’s missing is the main thing I teach in all the programs in ‘The Ocean’.
So, do what Morocco couldn’t and dribble your mouse past Ronaldo & Pepe, all the way down to this link and tap it right into the goal:
