Itâs true. I no longer eat halal meat. Iâm not suggesting you follow suit, but you might be curious to know my reasoning⊠and if you can withhold judgment long enough to read the rest of this email, I can assure you, there might just be something of immense benefit to you here.
One random afternoon in 2012, I watched a few documentaries and lectures about the meat industry, and instantly stopped eating meat. I was so used to eating meat, usually a couple of times a day, that later that day, I had to go to a health food store⊠because I literally had no idea what to eat! (If you want to know how itâs possible to have the willpower to instantly change life-long habits, weâll get to that after I explain my life-choicesâŠ)
That day it became clear to me that because the demand for meat is so high, there is no ethical way to meet that demand, without being extremely cruel to animals.
The Prophet, peace & blessings upon him said:
âA good action done to an animal is like a good action done to a human being, and a bad action done to an animal is like a bad action done to a human being.â
If you eat a deep fried chicken burger meal that cost about ÂŁ3, it is extremely likely that the chicken lived a very short, horrendously tormented life. To give you an idea: many battery farmed chicken have their beaks ripped off their faces. Why? Because theyâre packed in so tightly with the other chicken that the natural pecking movement their head makes would damage the chick in front of it. Instead of giving them more space to move around freely, a common practice is to just forcibly remove their beaks. (Without anaesthetic of course⊠theyâre only animals).
I will never eat a chicken treated that way. To say the least.
When an animal is certified as âhalalâ, that means it was sacrificed according to the rules of Islam. However, that does not mean the animal was treated according to the Sunnah of the prophet, peace & blessings upon him. My aim is to live by the Quran & Sunnah.
The Prophet, peace & blessings upon him, once saw a man about to slaughter a lamb, and the animal was clearly scared and knew what was about to happen. He intervened asking the man, âDo you want to kill it twice?â – as in, once out of fear and again in the sacrifice.
It is from the beautiful elegance of the prophetic way is that when an animal is sacrificed, it is not even meant to see the knife or know whatâs about to happen. This virtually never happens in modern day battery farming practices, which are designed to meet the demand for our greed, at as low a cost as possible.
Now you may have absolutely no interest reducing your meat consumption. But, you might be curious as to how I could instantly change my life-long eating habits overnight. (In fact, it didnât even take that long – I instantly stopped eating meat the same day I made the decision).
The secret to changing life-long habits, is âWillpowerâ.
And the secret to willpower, is in understanding the role of Thought.
Itâs no coincidence that I suddenly had the willpower to stop eating meat, only a few weeks after discovering the Inside-Out Paradigm and having insights into the nature of thought.
So, for Ocean Members only, Iâm going to do a special class next week called:
âWillpower: The Psychological Key To Exceptional Achievementâ
It will be a live class, taught on Wednesday 24th July at 12pm UK time, and Ocean Members will get to attend live and keep the recording for life.
