It was only when watching The Joker in action (either in The Dark Night or some comic-book movie animation) when I noticed his clown truck had “Laughter” written on the side… and he spray-painted an “S” before it.
That sums up the Joker in a nutshell.
It’s also a pretty good way to think of Eid al-Adha.
Hanging out with family and friends, there’s plenty of laughter on Eid… unless you’re a sheep.
But this Eid, instead of just slaughtering a sheep, I invite you to go a step above and beyond…
And slaughter your own nafs. At the altar of Allah’s Infinite, Divine Presence.
When you cut out your nafs (ego) with the sword of presence, a lot of wonderful things start happening in your life.
You’re no longer held back by insecurity. The negative voice in your head disappears. You find that you can easily achieve your potential, with nothing slowing you down. You’re in the flow zone at work. And relationships become more harmonious.
And best of all, you can bathe in the joyful beauty of Allah’s Magnificent Presence.
Suddenly, your prayers are a lot quieter and more heart-felt, without internal mental distraction.
And if you’re sensitive to such things, you may even begin to ‘feel’ the subtle energy of divine blessings showering over you during your prayers.
All of this is something anyone can achieve – with enough patience, training and practice.
And if you let me guide you through it, I bet you’ll have a good laugh in the process too.
