After over 15 years of coaching, I’m going to let you in on a secret.
There is something that happens in almost every single coaching session, at the moment the client has a breakthrough:
They drop their nafs.
For real.
“Insight is when the ego collapses over a particular subject”, as mentioned in the book, ‘Inside the Soul of Islam’.
What does that look like in real-life?
It usually comes in the form of a sudden, felt experience of relief.
Like suddenly, even though nothing in the outside world has changed, everything now looks completely different.
If there were big emotions and tears were flowing just moments earlier, suddenly all the mental-emotional pain has vanished and been replaced with peace.
Most notably, the client is totally, completely PRESENT.
If there’s one thing you learn from all the messages I send you, let it be this:
The darkness of the nafs cannot exist in the light of your presence.
The moment you become consciously aware of your nafs-based thinking and feeling, it loses its power and within moments, it disappears.
Does this mean you’ve mastered the nafs?
Yes.
(For now.)
For this moment, it’s gone. And this moment is all there really is.
Of course, it’ll come back later, in some other guise as you start getting insecure or upset about something else.
But, for now, it’s gone. So take the win.
Mastering the nafs is a life-long process and after the first few insights into how the mind works, what presence really is and how to let go of negativity, the journey becomes so profoundly beautiful, you’ll probably wish someone had shared all this with you sooner.
(But, be mindful – that’s the ego trying to sneak through the back door again).
That’s why we’re taught to say: alhamdulillah – all thanks and praise is due to Allah – the one who increases our consciousness and thereby brings ease and joy to our minds and souls.
If you want to start your spiritual journey, or take it to the next level, I recommend you first do a quick assessment designed to increase your awareness of how the nafs is operating in your life.
