There is a mufti, who hides in the inner-recesses of your mind.
Any time it sees anything, or anyone, it gives a ‘legal’ verdict.
Right or wrong. Good or bad. Positive or negative. One of us or one of them.
As soon as it gives its verdict, it judges and blames… leaving another part of you, the inner-victim, to suffer the consequences.
“But what if I really was wrong… I mean, I missed my prayers/ raised my voices at my kids/ was cold to my in-laws (although they totally deserved it!) / didn’t get my work done on time…” I can hear you think.
These are all passing judgments and opinions.
And the whole time we’re playing these soundtracks in our mind, you know what we’re not doing…?
We’re not bathing in the light of an awareness of Allah’s magnificent presence.
We’re not doing ‘zikr’ of Allah (bringing God to mind).
We’re not, in fact, doing anything. The only thing we’re doing ‘zikr’ of, is our own all-important opinions.
We’re just judging ourselves (and others) and beating ourselves up about it… instead of forgiving and moving on.
The key thing to remember about the mufti in your mind, is that…
It’s NOT an actual Mufti!
It’s had not scholarly training.
It can’t give fatwas.
It’s just a voice in your head. Inspired by a mix of your ego and maybe even the devil.
Let it go. Quiet your mind. Find inner peace.
Find the part of yourself – your True Self – which has always been deeply connected to Allah (swt).
