Today, three quarters of the UK’s population is officially in ‘Tier 4’, which means your social life is officially dead. If you’re fortunate enough to live with people you like, it’s not too bad. If not, you might be in the situation that several of my coaching clients are in right now, where they’re having to deal with family members who seem to have a personal mission of making life difficult for them.
As a comedian recently said on Frankie Boyle’s “New World Order”:
“I don’t mind having to take the vaccine. Even it turns me into a lizard, that would be better than having to stay indoors with my family”.
There is, however, silver lining.
This year can be the most productive, powerful, profitable year of your life.
Most noble goals don’t require a social life. If anything, a social life is usually an enjoyable distraction. Most noble goals don’t require anything in the outside world, aside from the bare essentials required for living and working on the goal.
If you’re blessed enough to have a roof over your head, you’re in a perfect position to stay under it, lock yourself in a room, and achieve everything you want.
Maybe you want to be a professional fighter. Lock the door. Train. Watch instructional videos. Do psycho pull-ups like Robert de Nero in Taxi Driver. Get a wooden dummy and shriek like Bruce Lee if you want.
Maybe you want to write the code for the next big app the world becomes addicted to. Have at it.
Maybe you’re a content creator like me. Write. Blog. Make videos. Record your podcast.
You have the perfect opportunity this year to turn your dreams into reality.
This year isn’t about surviving isolation with your family. It’s about thriving in it.
The only thing you need to know is that your circumstances, family, past, or challenges don’t determine the quality of your life. Your state of mind does. And with the optimal state of mind, you can produce outstanding results, no matter what your circumstances.
