A few years ago, I went on a yoga retreat in Spain and upon returning to Manchester I visited my friend’s house, to hang out with a few old friends from uni.
We had a great time and some laughs and on this particular occasion one of the brothers was a guy I knew from university, but I hadn’t seen in a long time. This brother was very, “MashaAllah”. When you looked at him, you could see a big beard, religious clothing, he clearly knew the Quran and Sunnah… and dressed the part.
He noticed that on my wrist, I had a bracelet. It was actually a purple rubber band that was given to me as a gift by one of the guys who was on the yoga retreat.
It had “Aqui y Ahora” written across it.
The brother looked at my wrist and said, “Why you got a bracelet bro?” And I said, “Oh, it was a gift. I keep it on me to remind myself. In Spanish it says “Here and Now””.
He had a puzzled look on his face. “What?”
And I said, “Well, it’s a reminder to me that there is only one moment in time in which you can worship Allah… which is THIS moment, right here, right now.”
Suddenly his demeanour completely changed, he looked humbled and uttered, “Subhan Allah” (Glory be to God).
Immediately all of our attention was brought into the present moment and into an awareness of Allah’s permanent presence.
The obvious truth that Allah is always present is easy to forget when the mind is clouded with stories and pictures of the past and the future. It’s helpful to remember as frequently as possible: “Aqui y Ahora”
You don’t need to write it on a bracelet. What you really need is to tattoo it to your brain.
If you’re ready to deepen your level of presence, and spend most of your time in a state of present moment awareness and enjoy all of the benefits to your relationships and spiritual life that it can bring, then book a coaching session with me. Here and Now.
To apply for a “Session” with me, the first step is to sign up for the Switch Masterclass and watch it carefully:
