So said the great Shaykh Abdul Hakeem Murad, aka. Professor TJ Winters of Cambridge University.
Now, for context he said that he would make this a ‘bumper sticker’ for Cambridge Muslim College if he knew he wouldn’t get in trouble for it.
(Naturally, given how much I LOVE trouble, I went ahead and immediately made it the title of my very next blog post.)
For a bit more context:
The secularised, post-modern, increasingly individualist western world has inadvertently created what he termed a ‘bio-pause’ – an increasing length of time between when a person can have children and the time when they actually do. This, along with how expensive and inconvenient children are seen to be, has resulted in a massive drop in birth rates across Europe and North America.
In other words, the individualistic, atheist-infused, secularised, increasingly promiscuous mindset is resulting in a literal ‘pause’ in the production of life. How ironic.
The average age of the population in the UK is now over 40. In Italy, to the Pope’s despair it’s almost 48. Pretty soon, at this rate, it will rise to the 50s in the next couple of generations. Which means, there’s not enough young people to do the work required to pay for everyone’s pensions.
But don’t worry folks. Muslims have come here to rescue you.
Partly because of the rules about only making love within marriage and partly because we’re really good at it. (Marriage I mean. Obviously).
In the face of all the horrendous world events unfolding around us, instead of getting reactive, petty, and foolish, the Shaykh’s advice was to literally, “chill”.
And it’s way more fun to chill… when you’re happily married.
