A client recently reminded me that one of the most impactful things in the book, ‘Inside The Soul of Islam’, is the chapter titled: Presence – the Key to Paradise.
A few years ago I had a huge insight into a very well-known prophetic saying about ‘ihsan’ (spiritual excellence). This realisation had a dramatic quietening effect on my mind. I came to realise that this simple statement (in Arabic) has 5 indications embedded within it that show us how to instantly become present, drop ego, and connect with Allah, the Most High.
The prophetic saying (hadith) is:
“Spiritual excellence (ihsan) is to worship Allah as if you see Him, though you cannot. Indeed He sees you”.
In the book I share 3 of the mind-quietening, presence-inducing, awareness-increasing insights that we can take from this saying. (I often share the other 2 insights during live events and in The Ocean programs, but they didn’t make the book, mostly because of editing and translation complexities).
By becoming more present and quietening our minds, something wonderful happens: we become acutely aware of Allah’s Infinite Presence.
In fact, it’s virtually impossible to not connect with Allah on a deeper level when we take the simple step of quietening our minds and reducing our ‘inner-chatter’ and ‘mind-movies’, by simply re-focusing our attention…
There will never be a moment when you’ll be more able to connect with Allah (swt) that you’re able to right now.
Let that sink in for a moment.
Being ‘present’ or ‘mindful’ right now in this moment isn’t the challenge. The real challenge and question is: how can we stay in this elevated psychological and spiritual state much more of the time?
And the answer is, of course, Inside The Soul Of Islam.
