A while back, I came across an interview of Mixed Martial Arts trainer who’s the coach of Georges St Pierre (arguably the best UFC fighter in the world).
His name’s Firas Zahabi, and within a few minutes of listening to him speak, I had several huge realisations that I knew would instantly change my mindset around training & keeping fit.
Here’s the story:
Person A (let’s call him Mamoon) does the typical thing. He goes to the gym and ‘kills it’. Lifts heavy weights as many times as he can, until failure. Then, he rests a minute, and does it again, and again. Basically, he ensures all his muscles are completely mashed up by the end of the workout.
Then, he goes home feeling like a tough guy.
The next day, he really feels like a tough guy because everything is aching. He’s stiff. He can barely reach for the remote control because his body sore all over. And reaching for the remote control is about all the exercise he can handle.
After about 2 days of this, the pain is reduced enough that he can go back to the gym and repeat. This time, being a real tough guy, instead of going to the weights gym, he goes to the MMA gym to do Jiujitsu. And once again, he *kills it*. He works out hard. He goes all out in the 20 minute warm up drills. Then, he learns a couple of moves in the class. And when it comes to fight time… he FIGHTS. He goes all out and gives it 110%.
This time, he doesn’t have to wait until the next day… he’s already feeling sore on the way home. And it take another 48 hours for him to fully recover enough that he feels ready and up for going back to the gym.
At the end of the week, he feels proud of himself because this week he’s managed one good weights workout and 1 good jiujitsu workout.
But, he still has a bit of a belly.
And he thinks in awe about how tough professional fighters, athletes and fit celebrities must be, because they must do this kind of training every single day.
Sound familiar?
What should Person A do instead?
Simple. Instead of watching Netflix, he should watch The Ocean program called ‘Finally Thin Forever’ and discover how MMA athletes and fitness celebrities train 6 days a week, such that they never get sore (seriously!!) and enjoy training a whole lot more, so they want to do it more often.
Plus, that way he would discover the once a week 20 minute workout that keeps you fit for life.
So, if you’ve been trying to ‘crush it’ at the gym, I know it might hurt your bicep, but just push through the stiffness nudge your mouse over here and click:
