Because we are in the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, which are some of the most meritorious days to fast outside of the month of Ramadan, I’m sending a few emails to remind us of the benefits of fasting the prophetic way.
To see lots of prophetic sayings on how valuable these fasts are, check out an email I sent a couple of days ago with the title “The Fast Way To Lean Abs”.
Today, I want to share some “fasting maths” with you.
Imagine you do a normal diet where instead of your regular 2000 calories per day of maintenance, you decide you’re going to only take in 1500 calories a day. You carefully plan out three meals each day, each one containing no more than 500 calories. You set your meal times and you stick with it very strictly, resisting all temptation for the entire week.
Let’s imagine you do this for six days in a row, and you take one day off from dieting each week.
Well, by the end of each day, you will be in a 500-calorie deficit. So by the end of the week, you’ll be in a 3,000-calorie deficit. Pretty great progress. However, I know from experience, this can be pretty tough. You have to carefully plan out 18 meals each week and stick to them and not deviate from the plan even a little bit for six days in a row.
Now let’s look at the fasting method of fat loss…
In this method, you don’t need to count calories at all, except one time for one meal.
Here’s how it works:
You generally eat healthily for the whole week with no specific attention on calories with the understanding that you will probably hit your maintenance of 2000 calories a day throughout the week, naturally. However, on two days a week, instead of eating 2000 calories, you fast the whole day, and then you break your fast with a small, healthy, nutritious, very filling 500-calorie meal. For example, a piece of lean protein and a big plate of deliciously prepared steamed vegetables.
Well, if we do the maths, by the end of the week, if you fasted two days and maintained your normal daily calorie requirement (approx. 2000) the rest of the time, then each fasting day, you’d be in a 1500-calorie deficit. So by the end of the week, you would – lo and behold – be in a 3000-calorie deficit.
In other words, you would have achieved in two days what the hardcore dieter achieved in six.
What’s more is that if you do this on busy days, you’ll hardly notice the time fly by as you’re fasting.
If you think about it, this is quite simply the cheapest, simplest and arguably the fastest possible way to lose unwanted body weight. If you happen to be a Muslim, and you do this the prophetic way, you get the added benefit and bonus of each fasting day during the first 10 days of this sacred month of Dhul Hijjah being the equivalent of one year of fasting in terms of spiritual reward.
If you want a full, comprehensive plan on how to transform your body through fasting and an easily doable exercise plan, check out the “Ramadan Fat Loss Challenge” and the “Built For Life” programs in The Ocean.
One student using these techniques lost 20 kilograms in less than six months just by fasting Mondays and Thursdays and following a very simple training plan that only takes about 15 minutes, twice a week.
