Assalam Alaikum,
Psychology is the logic of our “psyche”, or “soul”.
Over time, as the field became more secular and materialistic, the focus became more about what is measurable – external behaviour – rather than understanding what this “psyche” actually is…
(…which might naturally have lead to a study of spirituality & religion… words which make many of today’s post-modern scientists cringe).
This new focus on behaviour lead to much more interest in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), positive thinking, hypnosis and other attempts to think up techniques that might let us change our behaviour, using our minds.
I used to be a big advocate of this approach, because it seemed beneficial, and has been, to some extent.
In fact, I used to have a “coaching tool belt” of hundreds of psychological techniques which I would pull out, depending on the exact problem or goal that a client had.
Of course, when the techniques didn’t work I thought it was because of the client, the coach (me!), or my personal favourite, the “complexity” of the client’s “issues”. (If you’ve spent thousands of pounds learning a skill set, or a new tool, finding out it doesn’t work some of the time is a really hard pill to swallow.)
Fast Forward to today, and I rarely if ever use any technique or system for ‘fixing’ a client or their mind.
Why?
Because, now I understand a lot more about how the mind/ psyche/ soul actually works. I call this understanding the ‘Inside-Out Paradigm’.
So, rather than focus on changing the client’s behaviour, I can get to the root of the client’s actual issue very quickly, so they can finally let go of all the needless psychological suffering they’ve been going through.
(A happy side-effect of this are a series of instant, spontaneous, seemingly effortless changes that I would only have dreamed of for my clients, before using this ‘Inside-Out’ approach).
There are loads of examples of this in the TV shows, ‘Taqwa Transformation’ and ‘Quran Coach’ on BMTV, and you can see some on this page.

P.S. Your mind is not, and has never been ‘broken’, and you don’t need any techniques to ‘fix’ it. You just need to understand the logic of how it is already built to work. Then, instant, spontaneous change is automatic. See examples here:
