There is one moment in your day that is by far the best time to mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically worship God.
It’s not the middle of the night.
It’s not before Fajr.
It’s not just after sunset.
No. The best time for worship is:
Right now, in this moment.
The present moment is in fact the ONLY moment in time in which you can truly surrender yourself to God. In its deepest meaning, “Islam” is literally to surrender yourself to the will of God, whatever it may be, in any given moment. The natural consequence of this is a deep sense of serenity and inner peace. You don’t need to go anywhere or do anything to experience this. The only point in time and space you can experience it is right here and right now.
“This is the centre”, as Sami Yusuf famously sings in his powerfully hypnotic song.
Allah is eternal and beyond time and space and has set life up such that the only way to truly commune and connect with Him is not in the past or in the future or at any other time of day. The only time you can connect with Allah is in this moment right now, even as you’re reading this article.
How do you do it? There are several doors to enter into the realm of presence and deeper level of consciousness. The simplest way is to quiet the mind and focus on the Now by fully bringing your attention into this moment. As you do this, realise that Allah is here with you right now.
Most of us spend most of our day imagining the past and the future and distracting ourselves with mind made fictions instead of embracing the reality of the present moment and enjoying the blissful peace of a quiet mind.
You can remember worshipping Allah yesterday, or plan to worship Allah tomorrow, but the only moment in which you can ever actually worship Allah is in this present moment right now.
