It doesn’t matter how productive you intend to be – when negative emotions like fear, guilt or perfectionism take over your mind, you end up being blocked.
For many of us, no matter how good our intentions are, as long as we hold on to these negative feelings, we can’t seem to get ourselves into action.
That’s why, as a special bonus with the Productive From Fajr program, I’m including a training on the Inner Salaam Method.
This is by far the most effective way I’ve ever discovered in my life to deal with negative feelings such as fear, guilt, procrastination and perfectionism.
In fact, I have a rule for myself.
Whenever I sit down to do work, I set a countdown timer – one of the many techniques shown in the program.
And if I’m feeling a lot of inner resistance to the work I want to do, I must either:
A) Do the work I’ve set for myself, uninterrupted, for the next 47 minutes, or
B) Sit on my hands and do absolutely nothing – except the Inner Salaam Method, until the resistance has completely dissolved.
The Inner Salam Method involves noticing the resistance, letting it come up, and doing a meditative process to let the energy behind the feeling dissipate and completely disappear.
After it’s gone, I check in with myself – and I’m usually feeling great! (If not, a few more minutes of the Inner Salam Method will do the trick.)
Typically, after the Inner Salaam Method, you return to, would you have guessed it, “inner salaam” – inner peace.
This natural fitra state of profound peace tends to come with lightness, happiness, and freedom. Basically, the optimal mindset from which to actually do the work.
Sometimes, directly facing fear, resistance and procrastination head-on does take up a few minutes. But it makes you so much more effective over the next few hours that it’s totally worth it.
Instead of inner conflict and working against yourself, this is a simple way to clear your mind, become fully present, and do your best work.
