A short while ago, I saw a YouTube video by a beautiful scholar named Sheikh Yahya Rhodas, who shared an absolute gem.
He said that there is only one good thing about the nafs:
It gets used to things.
When you train yourself, usually over a period of at least 40 days, to do a specific action over and over again, the nafs, gets into the habit of it and gets used to it very quickly. And once it gets used to it, it stays used to it for a very long time.
This is the reason why people who work out for six months consistently will often continue to do so for the rest of their lives.
It’s also the reason why most people have spend four hours a day watching TV, not to mention doom scrolling on social media.
And that’s also the reason why I highly recommend we all dedicate the next 40 days of this new academic year to firmly establishing the Fajr Success Ritual.
After doing it for a few weeks, the nafs becomes used to it, and it just becomes your default way of waking up and starting the day.
And when that happens, you’re going to be in pretty good shape for the whole of the rest of your life.
