Yesterday, in the USA millions of people celebrated July 4th as “Independence Day”.
As I understand it, this is when the world was saved from an alien invasion by the unlikely but loveable duo of Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, may Allah reward them.
But it got me thinking about my own total lack of independence. In fact, the total lack of independence any of us ever really have as human beings.
Even if we gain freedom from political regimes, from the Social Media thought-police, from controlling family members and from our work bosses… we’re still completely dependent, whether we realise it or not.
This isn’t thinking cynical.
It’s thinking spiritual.
We are all totally, 100% dependent on the Source of the Universe, the Life-Giver, the Most Loving & Kind: Allah.
Allah, the Most Wise, created you and your actions.
Allah gave you the free will to do what you want… but it’s all within His Control.
You couldn’t breathe, or take a step, without His permission.
Each time your heart beats, it stops. And asks His permission to beat again.
He transcends time, space and matter, but gives you a body that can only exist within the limits of time, space & matter.
All other things that you seem to be dependent on are in fact illusions of the mind. The reality is that they’re put in place and sustained only by His will. Even if you deny His existence, you are still sustained and dependent on Him for your existence.
That’s why to truly declare your independence is to acknowledge the fact that in reality you are totally dependent onnone other than
It’s saying: “Yes, Allah, I’m all yours and bow to no-one but you. I surrender to Your Divine Will. I’m totally dependent on You and no-one else, but You.”
And it’s saying to the rest of the world: “Nope. You’re not my god. I don’t depend on you in any way.”
By surrendering to the fact of our dependence on Allah, we’re free from being dependent on anything other than Allah, the Most High.
This is Islam 101. It’s a simple idea. But its impact is revolutionary in your life.
This understanding has the power to give us limitless psychological freedom, when we come to terms with this fact as an actual reality, not just a mental concept.
The only way I know to do that, is to free the mind from the Psychological Illusion that your experience could come from anything other than the God-given, spiritual gift we call, ‘thought’. In other words, to recognise the reality that all the states we experience and want to experience, can only come directly from Allah, the Most Loving.
When we accept this, we suddenly find ourselves deeply surrendered and totally immersed in the beauty of Allah’s Presence.
This is the only true independence for a human being.
