Imagine you wake up in a room… and it’s pitch black.
Even as your eyes adjust to the dark, you still can’t make out the objects in the room. You don’t know where you are. You get up and try to find the door, but you soon trip over.
And as you pick yourself up, you feel something slimy on the floor. Yuck! You quickly wipe your hand and stand up. You reach for your phone, but it’s doesn’t work – it doesn’t even light up.
Then, you quiet down. You can’t quite make it out but you hear what sounds like someone (or something) breathing. You ask who’s there, but there’s no response.
You try to feel your way around the room, but you bump your knee into something. What is that? A chair? A wierd sized coffee table? As you stumble around the room, you get more frustrated and a little more freaked out…
Is this a practical joke? How did I end up here? Was I kidnapped? Am I in one of those indoor maze puzzle things?
Now you realise that things in the room are moving around. Are there people in here? Or animals? Something hits your arm. Ow! What was that…?
As time passes, you start to think about all the responsibilities you have; all the things you want to do in the world and all the people you love and miss, and who depend on you.
You start to become a bit more desperate, but you seem to be in an unfamiliar room with lots of random stuff and some of it is moving around and hitting you! And all the while, despite your efforts, you aren’t able to find your way out.
This nightmare is how most of us have been living most of our lives.
This is exactly what it’s like to try to achieve your goals and live your life when you don’t know how your mind and emotions work. When you don’t know the true cause of your feelings, you can’t see things clearly and the world seems like a scary place. There are all of these ‘things’ around you (like people, circumstances and challenges) that seem to want to hurt you, or trip you up.
Being productive while you’re in the dark is virtually impossible. You can’t get your bearings, let alone be a change-maker or force for good.
Now imagine, you’re in that same room… and the lights come on.
Suddenly, you realise you have nothing to fear – in fact, there was nothing to fear all along! You giggle to yourself as you realise what had been happening…
The breathing was your loved one, lying comfortably on the sofa.
The stuff that was ‘attacking you’ was just your own furniture, arranged differently than usual. You’re actually just in your own home. Your family are around you and the pain in your arm was your sweet little niece throwing a ball to play catch.
When the lights come on and you can see what’s going on, you realise you’re safe and sound and actually have been all along. The increasing upset, anxiety, insecurity and fear fade away as you embrace the light.
This is what it’s like when you go through ‘The Psychological Switch’.
The light in your mind comes on.
You realise that the ‘things’ and circumstances of your life were never really the problem… just like the furniture in your home isn’t a problem. It just seemed like the furniture was a problem when you were in the dark.
When you deeply realise the implications of the fact that feeling has always been coming from thought in the moment, your mind and life becomes filled with light. You’re no longer in the dark about the human experience. You automatically drop any insecure thinking, or fear, or silly superstitions you may have made up about what was going on around you because now you can see everything clearly through the light of truth.
You’re in a much better position to deal with the circumstances of your life, because now you can see what’s really going on!
Everyone who’s ever been through “The Psychological Switch” attests to it being the deepest, most profound transformation or our lives. It’s like stepping out from the darkness into the light.
It’s like having your eyes touched by the hands of Jesus (peace & blessings upon him) and having the blindness removed from your mind and heart, once and for all.
When you’re ready to step out of the darkness and into the light…
