Client becomes local cricket legend

by Mamoon Yusaf

To further drive home the point about how spiritually connecting with Allah can create real world results (see yesterday’s email titled “7 Reasons Why Morocco Keeps Winning”) , let me tell you the story of a client of mine.

Aziz grew up in Pakistan and is now a successful career driven family man who lives in the UK. And since he was a kid he’s had a passion for cricket.

When I met him, he had gone years without playing. And one of the goals he decided for himself was to get more into cricket, so he started playing at his local county club in the UK. On average he would score 15, 20 or 30 runs in a game.

Not bad. But nothing to write home about.

He he brought this to a group coaching session, where he asked me if there was some way I could coach him to improve his batting score. He told me that one of his biggest challenges was being tired after a few overs.

I pointed out that his tiredness is a state of mind that comes from thought in the moment – not from the number of overs he’s been batting.
We had a conversation about presence and how, by quieting the mind, we become intensely present, which is the key to connecting with Allah… But it’s also the key to fully focusing on what’s coming at you in this moment.

When we’re present, there’s literally no reason we ought to be more tired or have any less concentration than on the very first ball thrown at you. In any moment, you can ‘wake up’ and can give the full power of your attention and concentration to the ball that is being thrown at you.

In other words, excelling in sports isn’t just about presence. It’s about presence, and FOCUSING on what’s happening NOW in the game. Not what happened over the last few overs or the last few minutes.

Something clicked for Aziz. I know this because he came to the next session with a big grin on his face. He had scored a century (100 runs).

This wasn’t a fluke.

A couple of weeks later, he scored another century. They moved him up to the the first team in his amateur club… and he scored another century. He is now the star player on his team.

After seeing the World Cup Cricket final between England and Pakistan, Aziz texted to our mastermind Whatsapp group:

“They really need to understand the Spiritual Switch and get coaching from Mamoon.”

I can’t say I disagree.

Whether or not you happen to be on Pakistan’s international cricket team, if you want to improve your performance in any area of life, from the sports field to the boardroom, to performing better as a parent or a partner…

I recommend register for my upcoming “Spiritual Switch” coaching programme.
