I know, weird stance to take, from a professionally trained coach.

And yes, it’s true that statistically, you’re more likely to reach your goals if you set your goals properly and write them down… and even more likely if you create a quarterly and monthly plan, and about 80% more likely if you hire a coach and work with them weekly.
It make sense – the higher level of accountability you have, the more likely you’ll achieve your goals.
