Assalam Alaikum,

Just a quick one to let you know that if you haven’t read Inside the Soul of Islam yet, order it now & this weekend could become one of the most uplifting, soul-nourishing, life-changing weekends of your life, insha’Allah.

If you’ve already ordered it & it’s sitting on your shelf, do your soul a favour: read it.

If you’ve already read it, do me (and the Ummah) a favour: go on Amazon and give it a quick review. Seriously, by reviewing it, Amazon will put it in front of the eyes of many, many more people, most of whom will have no other way to access the true teachings of Islam.

Here are what some readers have said about the book so far :

=========================

A very engaging, inspiring, soul nourishing, and heart touching read.

I’ve just finished reading Inside the Soul of Islam. A very engaging, inspiring, soul nourishing, and heart touching read. I pray this book reaches the hands of every seeker of the truth. I also pray that Allah (God) accepts this piece of work, and it’s author Mamoon Yusaf, and all those who facilitated it in whatever way or form, and it’s readers, and that Allah (God) grants all of them a generous reward, and may the peace, love, and blessings of Allah (God) be with them always.

— Zain-ul-abedin Amir

Inspirational book

Wow…..totally blown away by the beauty and touching nature of the book. It gives amazing insights into Islam for someone following a different faith but also invaluable clarity and depth for a Muslim I believe. As the author puts it so beautifully, when you hear truth, you can feel it touching your heart and this is truly what happened to me. I thank you for it. It is a very special book which will hopefully help answer people’s questions in this most controversial time.

–Verified Amazon Customer

Definitely recommend reading this book.

I watched Quran coach a few times and really enjoyed it so I thought that I would try the book. I bought the Kindle version which was so much easier for me.

Alhamdullilah, this book is inspired and really motivated me to think differently about studying and particularly to actually count my blessings rather than focusing on the negatives in life which we all too often do. I would really recommend this book to anyone who both wanted to learn a little more Islam and people who are just starting out on a spiritual journey.

I do hope that the author writes more books in this easy read style as you can almost hear his voice!! As I’m a very visual person, I had drawn a vend diagram and write notes as I was reading but that’s just me and not a reflection of the book itself.

Of particular usefulness is the chapter on thankfulness and even the relevance to paying bills! If you do get the book, bare with it at the beginning read it all the way through. At the start, it discusses terrorism and the basics which can be easy to skip if you’re a Muslim but Really recommend that you don’t and just stick with it as the author puts a different perspective to these things.

— Sez

Assalam Alaikum,

This is the name of a program by one of my business mentors, Christian Mickelsen.

Working with him was the first time I ever really stopped to think about how much I was under the illusion that: “I don’t have enough time” and that “There isn’t enough time”.

By breaking free from these limiting ‘Time Scarcity’ mindsets, we soon discover that:

  • There’s actually plenty of time for what matters most.
  • The only time that really exists is this moment. In this moment, the past and future are just figments of our imagination.
  • The true purpose of life is to deepen your awareness of Allah, not to ‘get stuff done’.
  • By deepening your presence & awareness of Allah, you counter-intuitively, get into ‘the Zone’ and become more productive.
  • It’s actually possible to live without being a slave to stress and worry, no matter what work you do, and what the people in your life expect of you.
  • If you don’t learn to say ‘no’, you’ll always be stressed and overwhelmed. You can say it kindly & firmly. But you must say it…

In the words of Paolo Coelho: “Be sure that when you say ‘yes’ to someone else, you’re not saying ‘no’ to yourself”.

For an in-depth training that shows you how to actually live by these ideas, check out the ‘Time Freedom Formula’ program in The Ocean:

The Power of Less

By · Comments (0)

Assalam Alaikum,

One of the best books currently available on productivity is by a fellow Hay House author, Leo Babauta, called “The Power of Less”.

It’s one of the few personal development books I continually refer back to, because of its simplicity and brilliance.

Although Leo isn’t from a Muslim background, his entire book seems to speak to this Prophetic saying:

“Take action properly, sincerely and moderately, and know that your actions will not make you enter Paradise. The most beloved action to Allah is the most regular and constant, even if it is small.”

— The Prophet Muhammad, peace & blessings upon him.

Here are the key ideas in the book that I expand upon in the Productive From Dawn program:

  • Focus on only 1 goal at a time, or just one habit change at a time. Any more will overwhelm you & over the course of a year, you can make a lot of major changes in your life this way, one month at a time.
  • List all the projects you’re currently working on. Now pick the top 3 you want to work on first. Do not work on any other project until all 3 of these are completely done.
  • Start your day with a morning routine. (In Productive From Dawn, I outline my own Prophetically-inspired one…)
  • Start your work-day by listing out your top 3 most important tasks (MIT’s), before looking at email or anything else. Try and blast through them as early in the day as you can.
  • Keep your phone on airplane mode while you’re working & turn off all notifications. They distract you & leave ‘attention residue’, long after you continue working on the original task.
  • Focus all your energy, intention & attention on one task at a time. This gets you present, and in the Zone.
  • Benefit from prayers, by using them to re-focus, practice presence and re-connect with your purpose: why are doing your daily tasks? How are they serving creation & the Creator?

If you want to implement these ideas in your daily life, you need to listen to the Productive From Dawn program. It’s included as part of The Ocean.

Gay Muslims.

By · Comments (0)

Assalam Alaikum,

Over the weekend I attended an excellent course on Islam & Homosexuality, lead by a brilliant Muslim scholar, Shaykh SM Hasan al-Banna, organised by the Islamic Institute of Development & Research.

It is beyond the scope of this brief article to deal with this matter comprehensively. I just wanted to benefit people with  some of the most interesting key learnings:

  • The term ‘homosexuality’ was only coined in the 1860’s
  • The Islamic frame of reference doesn’t use that term or focus on labelling people according to their sexual orientation. (There is a unique, more sophisticated Quranic vocabulary and frame of reference used to talk about sexuality).
  • The debate around nature or nurture is kind of irrelevant if we accept the testimony of virtually every gay person that they do not have a choice in who they are attracted to.
  • Generally speaking: Attraction is not a choice. What we do with those feelings is. (This is true for everyone.)
  • Islam & the Shariah do not pass judgment about thoughts, feelings, desires & attraction. It does judge the external behaviour as a sin, which usually only occurs in private, and is not therefore a public (or state) concern.
  • The idea that this kind of thinking is a psychological dysfunction is completely foreign to Islam.
  • Just as Muslims are accused of homophobia today, just over a hundred years ago in the West, Muslims were actually accused of being too open and accepting of people with same-gender attraction. #irony
  • Muslim men, who were scholars and great thinkers, as early as the 3rd generation, openly wrote poetry about being attracted to men, and talked about the depth of their love, and the struggle of feeling attraction & not acting on it.
  • Any form of discrimination against someone based on their orientation is completely forbidden in Islam. (In other words, what we would now call “homophobia” is haram).
  • Islam does not see people as ‘gay’ or ‘straight’ or anything in between, but as human beings, with souls, whose ultimate purpose is to serve, and gain a deeper knowledge of, Allah the Most Loving, Most Forgiving. Who you are (or are not) attracted to does not change, or in the least bit affect, this noble purpose.
  • Revisionist attempts to re-read the sources to allow for homosexual intercourse have not gotten very far, and probably won’t, as they depend on ignoring Prophetic sayings.
  • The Prophet, peace & blessings upon him, never punished anyone for being gay or engaging in the act. There is no hadd (physical) punishment for this sin prescribed by the Quran. The hadith which mention physical punishments are considered by many hadith specialists as being too unreliable to enact*.

Here’s why this is relevant:

If you are (or know of) a gay Muslim who, like some of the course’s attendees, have been trying to not act on your desires, and feel like it’s unfair or too hard to be celibate, or like you have to choose between being gay & being Muslim…

… then you’ve probably had a lot of self-defeating, hurtful, negative, conflicted thinking about this issue, for a very long time.

If you’d like to finally end such psychological suffering, and let go of self-harmful thinking patterns, you’ll benefit from The Paradigm Shift, Instant Ihsan & Effortless Transformation courses. You can get them as part of The Ocean membership program, by clicking here.

Peace, Love & Blessings.

Mamoon

P.S. My courses so far have not addressed the issue of homosexuality directly. However, by quietening our minds, connecting more deeply with Allah, and having insight, we can’t help but find more peace, and be positively transformed.

Just to be clear: by going through my trainings, your situation (and orientation!) will not change. You will change, internally. And that changes everything. Insha’Allah.

Assalam Alaikum,

I share a lot of experiences in ‘Inside the Soul of Islam’ that are very valuable for parents struggling to raise their kids to become confident, practicing, believing Muslims, including:

  • “Like a donkey carrying books” – my early experiences with a Maulvi Saab, and what they taught me (or didn’t!) that lead to me becoming obsessed with the Quran in later life.
  • The question my Uncle asked me at the age of 11 that lead to me becoming a devoted, believing Muslim, and why not thinking about it may well have lead me to become an atheist.
  • The follow up question from my unsuspectingly wise uncle which sowed the seed for me to become a practicing Muslim. (You might want to run this one by your kids!)
  • What makes an experience truly ‘spiritual’ and why you don’t have to be in Mecca to have one.
  • A nostalgic, heart-warming description of my the first time I saw the Kaba, the holiest site in Islam.
  • The Quran verse that turns the tables on the idea that religion is the ‘opium of the people’ – something your kids will learn in school.
  • The power of the Fajr prayer and the impact it can have on a Muslim who tries it for the first time, voluntarily.
  • The eye-opening truth about mainstream schooling and why it tends to naturally lead people towards atheism… especially if they’re high-performing students. (And how you can get your kids to ace it and strengthen their faith).
  • Why leaving medical school was the best decision I ever made, and how parents can support their kids to fulfil their highest potential
  • Insight into how young Muslims can be raised into being strong believers.
  • The challenge with Islamic courses todays, and why I turned to the ‘self-help’ genre… and eventually how that lead me back to the Quran.
  • The beautiful hadith (prophetic saying) that still inspires me to get out into the world and get on with doing good, beneficial work that serves humanity.

All of this, and much, much more is covered in Chapter 2 of the book.

Order it, read it, and if you’re already done, give a copy to a friend, and review it on Amazon. :O)

Assalam Alaikum,

“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”

So said Mawlana Rumi, pointing to the magnificence of the True Self – the source of love & wisdom in the centre of your being.

The first time I heard this, I sat in silence for around half an hour, just in awe.

When you realise who you truly are, you can no longer be insecure, because there is literally nothing to be insecure about.

All insecurity is just an illusion created by thought.

For the last decade I’ve been creating personal growth programs designed to help people see this fact more deeply, in the context of the very real challenges and issues we all face in life. These trainings cover all six major areas of life, including: Mind-set, Body, Deen (Spirituality), Money, Time & Love.

Achieving big things in any one of these areas can seem like a daunting task… unless we let our True Selves guide the way.

When that happens, big changes can become truly effortless, because we’re no longer sabotaging ourselves with negative, destructive thoughts.

If you want that to happen for you, go here and as soon as it’s ready you’ll get access to ‘The Ocean’ – all of my training programs – for a fraction of the normal investment:

Assalam Alaikum,

So, I’ve just seen Star Wars. Twice.

But, out of respect to everyone who doesn’t want spoilers… let’s talk about D.C. Comic’s Justice League movie instead.

It flopped. Big Time.

It was actually a really good movie, but it didn’t work at the box office. Importantly, it failed for the same reasons that most of us fail to achieve our personal life goals…

There is one main reason Justice League didn’t become a big hit, even though it had SIX Super-Heroes in 1 movie (…while its competitor, Marvel’s Avengers, was one of the highest grossing movies of all time). The reason is:

Not. Enough. Build-Up.

They rushed it, and as a result, it didn’t have the impact it should have.

When Marvel did the Avengers, each character in the movie had already had its own dedicated movie: Ironman, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, etc. That way, Marvel could figure out who was really popular (and give them sequels) and how much to emphasise each character in the main Avengers story line. Plus, they had the added benefit of a free mini-advert in each movie to build up the next one & ultimately to build up the Avengers movies.

DC didn’t do that. They had Superman, the sequel with Batman, and they had Wonder Woman… but that was it! They then had to rush through introductions to 3 new Super-Heroes all in the Justice League movie, along with the bad-guy.

*FACE-PALM

And this, my friend, is where we go wrong with our big goals in life.

We all have 6 major areas in our lives, which are kind of like each independent Super-Hero movie:

  • Money — [Batman]
  • Time — [The Flash]
  • Love — [Wonder Woman]
  • Mind — [Cyborg]
  • Body — [Superman]
  • Soul — [Aquaman…?! Okay, he was the only character left for this metaphor…]

The ‘Justice League’ of your life, is how you weave your goals in all these areas together.

This new year, rather than rushing into trying to achieve big things in all areas all in January [a la the Justice League flop], let each area be the star of its own ‘movie’ first [Marvel-Style].

If you want a proven system for how to do this, check out the Productive From Dawn program.

Don’t have access to my programs? Go here:

The Ocean: All Access Pass – Early Notification.

Batman

P.S. For the record: Justice League actually was a great movie… but it just didn’t have the je ne sais quoi of The Avengers.

Assalam Alaikum,

On Friday, I wanted to get the train from London to Manchester, to visit family for the weekend… and, perhaps more importantly, keep up the important tradition of watching the new Star Wars movie with my brother.

The last reasonably-priced ‘off-peak’ train was at 3pm. If I missed that one, I’d have to wait until 7:40pm and risk missing the movie. (Not an option). To get from my flat in London to Euston station, the quickest way (and maybe the only way to make it on time), was to get an Uber.

However, when I got in the Uber, I made the mistake of telling the driver that I was in a rush to make my train.

So, bless his heart… he tried going faster.

Instead of just using the standard Uber route, which would have got us in on time, he decided to get stressed & inventive…

…He started weaving in and out of side sreets, landing us in more and more traffic, and extending the route more and more with each de-tour. He kept apologising with each extra de-tour that didn’t work. He blamed the traffic. He would try changing lanes, and as soon as he did… you guessed it… the previous lane started going faster.

He was more stressed than I was to get me in on time!

Now, aside from the fact that his intention was good, there was something so obvious to me that he couldn’t see:

Slow down and relax, and you’ll get there faster.

That’s exactly how it is with personal transformation, too.

What some ‘eager’ students do is:

Watch my online trainings & live seminars, desperately trying to rush ahead, figure out everything I’m saying and immediately apply it to their personal problem, and then they get super-confused… and their journey takes longer

This approach almost always fails.

What actually works:

Slow down. Soak in all the training. Relax as you watch it all, the same way you would listen to a beautiful song, or watch your favourite show on Netflix.

The aim of everything I teach is to point you within and quiet your mind, so you have a new realisation, or insight, that comes from deep within your own soul.

By doing so, you find the wisdom that’s always been within.

You can’t rush that, and when you slow down, you actually get there quicker…

…Unlike the Uber driver who almost made me miss the train.

If you want access to an Ocean of life-enhancing wisdom, jump into your Toyota Prius and rush over here :

The Quran is the greatest personal development manual ever written.

Assalam Alaikum,

Let’s face it

Chances are, by this time next year you won’t have learnt Quranic Arabic, you won’t have memorised significantly more of the Quran… and if you can’t already, you probably won’t be great at reciting it either.

But, just to make sure you completely fail to achieve your personal Quran goals this year, here is some terrible advice, that absolutely guarantees your failure…

  • Don’t set any Quran goals – that way the whole journey will be filled with self-doubt, uncertainty and guilt
  • Skip Arabic classes – and buy yourself a nice watch instead. That way you can watch in style as the time slides by, and you get no closer to your objectives.
  • Don’t be strategic about your Quran Plan – there are over 13 different ways of studying the Quran. Don’t give it much thought – just do them randomly whenever it occurs to you.
  • Only study the Quran when you feel motivated after watching a YouTube lecture by someone famous.
  • Don’t even bother trying to create the Daily Quran Habit. You’ll only get your hopes up, then let yourself down.
  • Never find a real Quran teacher – instead, use people on the internet who you’ve never met and have no relationship with as your only source of guidance
  • Absolutely do not read ‘Inside the Soul of Islam’ – in case it inspires you and gives you life-changing insight that makes you fall deeply in love with the Quran
  • And above all, if you want to guarantee your failure in 2018, do not click here to attend the Quran For Busy People Masterclass.

There you have it. The worst tips ever, which if you follow, will quite certainly make sure you don’t achieve your Quran goals this year.

However…

If you’re ready to stop listening to Shaytan and make a big shift in your relationship with the Quran & with Allah, the Almighty…

Get Inside the Soul of Islam, and access the Quran For Busy People Masterclass tonight.

Peace, Love & Blessings.
